Please join us for a discussion on Concussion Management in the Pediatric population presented by Kasey Mayer, PT, DPT. Kasey will discuss concussion statistics for the pediatric population and go over the epidemiology and pathophysiology of pediatric concussions. She will discuss the importance of early identification through screenings, assessments, and evaluations. In conclusion, she will talk about the different levels of involvement and treatment strategies for all physical therapy clinicians to utilize.

Objectives:
1. Discuss the current concussion statistics for the pediatric population.
2. Learn the epidemiology and pathophysiology of pediatric concussions and the importance of early intervention and prevention for the pediatric population.
3. Learn the physical therapy considerations regarding the screening, assessment and treatment of children with concussion symptoms.
4. Learn the different levels of involvement with pediatric concussions including the cervical spine, oculomotor system and the vestibular system and treatment strategies for the different levels of involvement.

My name is Kasey Mayer. I am an outpatient Physical Therapist working outpatient for Yale New Haven Health. I completed my doctoral studies at the University of Hartford in 2016 and have been in the outpatient setting for the last 9 years. I specialize in vestibular and concussion rehabilitation, as well as trigger point dry needling. I have been involved in specialty clinics for concussion for the past 3 years that I have been at Yale, and have 5+ years of experience performing diagnostic testing in an ENT office for Dr. Marc Eisen out of Farmington Connecticut in my time with Hartford Healthcare. I have recently become more involved with the Yale Pediatric Concussion clinic, I am at the Old Saybrook location as well as the Long Wharf location once a month and am responsible for diagnostic testing and providing treatment strategies for this population.
